Hybrid Utility Plants

Stellar's hybrid plant combines the benefits of a modular plant with that of a traditional field-plant. The nature of the hybrid plant design allows a significant portion of the plant's equipment to be designed, fabricated and tested in modular components in a manufacturing environment. This is significantly different than a traditional field-erected plant where the typical district cooling plant and system is designed and executed by installing every component in the field.

The modules are then installed in the traditional field-constructed plant building. This allows the design and system to retain the benefits of traditional plants through such items as overhead rail cranes, plentiful access areas for equipment maintenance, robust building construction, attractive building architecture and appearance and complete flexibility to provide any desired employee welfare areas and operating stations.

The major advantages of the hybrid design are:

  • Detailed level of pre-engineering
  • Design errors are minimized
  • The system efficiencies can be optimized
  • Modular designs are more easily repeated, resulting in improvements from one to the next
  • Retains the cost benefits of a modular design
  • Retains the quality of modular design
  • Construction safety is optimized as much of it is done in a manufacturing environment
  • Retains the aesthetic appeal of a traditional field-erected plant
  • Retains the space and accessibility of a traditional field-erected plant
