JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 11, 2010) –Stellar, a construction, design, engineering and mechanical services firm, has completed a nearly 167,000-square-foot expansion and more than 31,000-square-foot renovation of the Ring Power® Sales and Service Center, in Riverview, Fla. Ring Power is an international retailer of new and pre-owned Caterpillar® products, including power systems, engines, forklifts and heavy equipment. The Riverview sales and service center is a central location for Ring Power and one of its key facilities. The expansion will provide increased capacity for repair, service, testing and storage, supporting the company’s continued growth.

Stellar provided design, engineering and construction services for the three-phase expansion, which began in 2006 and was completed in March of this year. Stellar worked on an open campus for the entirety of the project, accommodating Ring Power’s ongoing refurbishment, testing and sales of Caterpillar products. The construction included a remodel and 14,500-square-foot addition to the parts storage warehouse, the addition of a 22,000-square-foot equipment sand blasting and painting building, and a new 130,500-square-foot service center. The service center includes an office area, heavy equipment repair and service bays, and a state-of-the-art 1,200-square-foot “dyno” room for engine testing. The dyno room houses a dynamometer--a device used to engage and measure the power of an engine--and required special accommodations for ventilation, soundproofing and structural integrity.

In addition to the structures, the project also involved significant enhancements to the existing 74-acre property. Enhancements included the addition of an operator test track, a concrete screen wall and 410,000 square feet of heavy duty concrete paving throughout the facility. Stellar used innovative jointfree concrete slabs for the service center flooring and other heavy-traffic areas to increase the floor’s lifespan and reduce damage from the large, earth-moving equipment.

“For the past two decades, Stellar has been fortunate to work with Ring Power on nearly a dozen projects—including the design and construction of its first location,” said Richard Lovelace, divisional vice president of Stellar commercial. “Like every Ring Power project, the Riverview location presented unique challenges and requirements, including construction on a facility that remained in operation throughout the project. We attribute the success of the project to full team integration, flexibility and an extensive understanding of client needs.”
