JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 19, 2010) – A plant constructed by Stellar, a construction, design, engineering and mechanical services firm, has been recognized as “Food Plant of the Year” by the leading national food manufacturing publication, Food Engineering. The award will be formally presented, on April 27, during the Food Automation & Manufacturing Conference in Clearwater Beach, Fla. The award honors Keystone Food LLC’s poultry processing plant in Gadsden, Ala., for its exceptional innovation and industry-leading food safety technology. Stellar was hired by Keystone to provide services in master planning, design, construction and engineering across all disciplines, including civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, refrigeration and electrical. The 200,000 square-foot plant will provide a variety of fully cooked meat and poultry products to Keystone’s leading national and international foodservice customers.

“We are proud to have contributed to this state-of-the art plant,” said Mike Santarone, chief operating officer of Stellar. “This facility required the highest levels of food safety— from design to construction—and our team provided the expertise and innovation to confidently meet the challenge.”
