Stellar, a fully integrated firm focused on design, engineering, construction and mechanical services worldwide, has completed two projects for the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Stellar provided full design-build services for the renovation of a 90-room temporary lodging facility and the construction of a new convenience mart.
Lejeune Inn Temporary Lodging Facility
Work began October 2012 on the 75,000-square-foot Lejeune Inn Temporary Lodging Facility renovations. The project included upgrading the existing 90-bed facility and unifying it with a previously completed 50-bed addition. Guest room updates include new motion-activated air conditioning units, new floor and wall finishes, and new plumbing fixtures. Exterior building upgrades include new lighting, doors and signage, in addition to storm drains, utilities, lighting, and walkways.
Wallace Creek Marine Mart
The Wallace Creek Marine Mart is a new 13,803-square-foot convenience mart with a six-pump fuel island. The Marine Corps and Stellar focused on reducing the carbon footprint of the building, including selecting building materials for their energy performance and ability to reduce the building’s urban “heat island” effect. Photovoltaic solar roof panels were installed, offsetting 13 percent of the building’s energy costs. Additional sustainable design features include water-saving bathroom fixtures, indoor air quality systems, onsite recycling and ponds for storm water management. For customers, the mart features a food vendor in addition to interior and exterior dining space. The project has been submitted to the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for LEED Silver Certification.
“We’ve completed several projects for the Camp Lejeune community and appreciate the opportunity to provide our military and their families with comfortable, functional and sustainable facilities,” said Richard M. Lovelace, Stellar Senior Vice President. “We hope to continue expanding our military portfolio with these types of projects.”
