Stellar Completes Construction of Multipurpose Convenience Mart at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (June 4, 2018) — Stellar, a firm providing award-winning construction management at-risk, design-build and general contracting services for a range of commercial and public sector markets, has completed construction on a new Flightline Marine Mart on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California. The $9.7 million design-build project included the construction of a Marine Mart building, gas station and car wash, which are now open and operational.
The 9,000-square-foot multipurpose building was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and includes:
Food court and drive-thru with three fast food vendors
Gas station and convenience store
Barbershop
Stellar also constructed a new airway beacon tower according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards to replace the 50-year-old tower that previously supported the airfield.
The new Marine Mart is located adjacent to the base’s flightline — where aircraft are serviced and maintained — and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“This facility is at the heart of the base, within walking distance of the hangars,” said Joe Mark, Operations Manager, Public Sector at Stellar. “Personnel who work on the flightline will now have convenient access to these services instead of having to travel across the base.”
The Stellar team conducted analysis to ensure efficient traffic flow for drive-thru lanes and to maximize the space on-site. The design team also accounted for standoff and other protection requirements per Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) standards.
This is the fourth Marine Mart Stellar has constructed on a U.S. military installation. Construction of the Marine Mart at MCAS Miramar began in June 2017.
Stellar holds a Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with the U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) G9 Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) services, which funded the project. IMCOM's motto is "We Are the Army's Home." They provide installation services for the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters who serve the Army and other branches of the U.S. military. They are dedicated to the support of a ready and resilient Army by providing soldiers, families and civilians a quality of life commensurate with the quality of their service. Stellar has worked with MWR on more than 30 projects.
