Stellar to Renovate Shades of Green Resort at Walt Disney World
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (April 25, 2018) — Stellar, a firm providing award-winning construction management at-risk, design-build and general contracting services for a range of commercial and public sector markets, has begun renovations at Shades of Green at Walt Disney World Resort.
The design and construction project includes updating 283 rooms in the resort’s Magnolia Wing with:
● New flooring
● Modern finishes
● Low-voltage LED lighting fixtures
● Fresh paint and wall coverings
The Shades of Green Resort is the only Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC) located in the continental United States. The resort offers discounts and special offers for military personnel and their families to enjoy the Disney parks.
Stellar will be conducting a phased approach, renovating 30 rooms at a time and one floor at a time in the three-story Magnolia Wing. Stellar is also participating in a waste diversion program to recycle existing guest room carpet. The resort will remain open to guests throughout the four-month project.
The renovations are expected to be complete in August 2018.
This is the second project Stellar has conducted at Shades of Green. In 2016, the firm completed a $7.6 million renovation ahead of that year’s Invictus Games. It was the first time the event was held in the United States, bringing 15 nations, 500 military athletes, Prince Harry and Michelle Obama to Orlando.
Funding for the design and construction of this facility is paid for with U.S. Army Non-appropriated Funds (NAF) provided by Soldiers, Military Families and authorized users of these Family & Morale Welfare Recreation (MWR) facilities. The United States Army Installation Management Command’s motto is "We Are the Army's Home." They provide installation services for the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters who serve the Army and other branches of the U.S. military. They are dedicated to the support of a ready and resilient Army by providing soldiers, families and civilians a quality of life commensurate with the quality of their service. Stellar has worked with MWR on more than 30 projects.
